Living unhealthy today can harm your health in 20 years from now. An emergency in slow motion, with sometimes irreversible damage.

Aging comes with flaws

As we get older, we get more physical and mental aches, pains and injuries. For one part, this is a natural part of ageing. For the other part, the lifestyle a person had from a young age on, effects how healthy that persons ages. (Healthy Ageing, CrossFit and Lifestyle) Healthy Ageing actually starts in the womb. Many symptoms and (chronic) diseases prevalent among older people are lifestyle related, such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, sleeping disorders, and depression. Also, issues with muscles, joints and the spine are affected by lifestyle.

Emergency in slow motion

An unhealthy lifestyle at a younger age is a breeding ground for an emergency in the future, such as a heart attack. The time between that breeding ground and the emergency takes about 20 years. The negative effects of unhealthy nutrition, lack of exercise and too much stress might not be noticeable right now, but only after many years. And the impact of such an emergency is often quite large and irreversible. A heart attack can kill you.

Healthy lifestyle for life

Starting a healthy lifestyle will not immediately reverse damage. It takes months or years to reverse damage and recover for example from diabetes type 2. Other damage is irreversible. Nevertheless, a healthy lifestyler is a no- regret choice: it will definately not make things worse and can mitigate symptoms of chronic diseases. But, a healthy lifestyle is not a temporary project with an end date. A healthy lifestyle is for life.
