Boost your energy in winter

Winter time means going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark. You might feel tired and sluggish. Six easy tips to boost your energy.

1. Go outside every day

Go outside for 30 minutes during your lunch break or after work. The fresh air, extra oxygen, vitamin D and exercise will boost your energy.

2. Eat light meals regularly

A small light meal every three hours gives your body a constant input of nutrients and energy. Light meals with minimally processed food, lots of vegetables, some protein and whole grain products, can help to avoid the after lunch or dinner dips.

3. Drink water

The body can give confusing signals: You might think you're tired or in need or sugar, when you are actually dehydrated.. Drink at least 2 liters of water per day.

4. Sleep

Sleeping too much or not enough can cause health problems such as disturbed feelings of hunger and satiation, fatigue, a disturbed hormonal balance, risk of excessive fat storage and mental health issues. Go to bed on set times and make sure your bedroom is well ventilated and without any distractions such as your phone.

5. Avoid energy zappers

Avoid sugar, salt and caffeine. Although you may think that a piece of cake or a cup of coffee gives you an energy boost, the effect last only very short and soon after you will feel even more tired. These products are real energy zappers.

6. Take a mindful moment

Start or end your day with ten minutes to distract from daily life. Sit down, close your eyes, breathe in and out and try to think of nothing. Undoubtedly thousands of thoughts will cross your mind and you will feel you are unable to think of nothing. Don’t get frustrated. Every time you notice your thoughts drift off, just go back to ‘thinking of nothing’. Even if you think you’re not able to do this, you are actually already doing it and recharching your energy.
