Giving is good for your health

Several social studies have shown that giving has great benefits for mental and emotional well-being.

Giving, such as donating to charity, gives us a feeling of “doing the right thing”. It’s a form of moral satisfaction and it helps to consider yourself as compassionate and kind. By nature, we have a need for an emotionally positive experience known as “warm-glow”. Giving helps to develop that feeling.

Giving can create positive emotions and feelings of happiness. Refusing to give or to donate when asked, can lead to negative emotions and feelings such as sadness and guilt. It can even affect self- image.

Additional to the short-term emotional perk, giving also has long-term benefits such as increased levels of happiness, improved self- esteem, and feelings of being more connected to the world around us. As such, giving has positive effects on overall well-being.
